What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is one of the oldest medical therapies used in the world. It is by nature simple, safe and effective, providing relief to patients of many health issues without the side-effects of traditional western medicine and prescription drugs.

Acupuncturists use thin, sterile, needles that are inserted superficially into specific areas of the body in order to help the body’s ability to heal itself. Over the three decades or so in which acupuncture has been practiced in the U.S., it has been proven to be not only exceptionally safe when performed by licensed acupuncturists, but effective in an increasing number of scientific studies.

Acupuncture can greatly improve the quality of life for those with a variety of conditions. Call today to see if you are one of many people acupuncture can help!

How Does Acupuncture Work?

Your body is built with the ability to heal itself through the flow of its circulatory system. Your blood contains nutrients vital to your existence (oxygen, water, platelets, hormones, proteins, glucose and etc.) and it helps remove wastes and toxins from your body. If nutrients are not delivered to every cell in your body, then the cells that lack nutrition will die. On the other hand, cells that receive proper blood flow, get the nutrition they need for healthy body processes. Additionally, if waste elimination is hindered then toxins accumulate in areas of the body- we call this inflammation. If the accumulated waste is not eliminated, eventually the toxins will start to kill all neighboring cells as well. These toxins and cell loss can cause various symptoms and eventually noticeable health problems. Acupuncture can stimulate your blood flow and guide it to specific areas of your body to nourish cells that have been deprived of nutrition. Acupuncture can also increase blood flow to areas where toxins have accumulated to decrease this accumulation or inflammation. Acupuncture basically turns on the “ON” switch to self-healing for your body.

Our Methodology

Tung’s Extraordinary Points & Balance Methods

Our founding acupuncturist Lucky utilizes the Tung’ Extraordinary Points and Balance Methods. Tung’s Extraordinary Points method relies on the use of “family points” in which multiple body systems can be targeted at once, therefore, results can be achieved faster and by using fewer needles. The results of this acupuncture treatment can usually be seen or felt immediately. Additionally, the Balance Method utilities ancient techniques of needling corresponding limbs on the opposite side of the body to restore balance to the body. Pain can be relieved by up to 90% immediately using this method. Both Tung’s Extraordinary Points and the Balance Method work best when used on the extremities of the body, meaning patients can wear their regular clothes during treatments. Our expert practitioner at Lucky Flow Acupuncture utilizes both of these methodologies to provide immediate relief and the least amount of discomfort to their patients as possible.

The Acupuncture Process

Appointments at Lucky Flow Acupuncture are relaxing and rejuvenating! You begin your acupuncture treatment by sitting in one of our comfortable recliners located in one of 10 private treatment rooms. The soothing lights and sounds of the space, as well as the warm and friendly clinic staff, will begin working immediately to put you at ease. You will be asked to roll up your sleeves and your pant legs, exposing your lower forearms and legs below the knees. At Lucky Flow Acupuncture, you will never be asked to get undressed or be exposed at any point. Our highly trained acupuncturist will then insert thin, sterile, one-time-use disposable acupuncture needles in specific points on your legs, arms, head, or ears. The acupuncture needles are then left in place for approximately 30 minutes. You can expect to be in our office for 45- 50 min each treatment.

When the needles are inserted you may feel a “spark” sensation, however, this is not generally painful. Similar to when you turn on a light switch, there’s a little electric spark that ignites the electricity to turn on the light bulb. Acupuncture is attempting to do much the same thing, contacting the nerve to “turn on” your blood circulation. The spark sensation can feel like numbness, tingling, aching, heaviness, or stinging. The spark sensation usually lasts a few seconds and then goes away.

The Treatment Process

We at Lucky Flow Acupuncture believe there are 4 phases to your treatment and care.

  •  Phase 1 is called Relief Care – First and foremost, our goal is to get you feeling better immediately. We work to relieve your symptoms so you can live your best possible life right now.
  • Phase 2 is called Corrective Care – The goal of this phase is to correct the problems that made you seek treatment first place. We don’t only want to address the symptoms of your health issues, we want to address the underlying cause. This will ensure that the symptoms do not return.
  • Phase 3 is called Strengthening Care – Once we’ve corrected the problem, we need to train your body to take over the care of your systems. During this phase, we are slowly decreasing the frequency of your treatments so your body has a chance to self heal.
  • Phase 4 is called Maintenance Care – After your body is able to regulate itself, it is up to you to continue maintenance care to insure long-lasting results.

Relief from pain and symptoms is only one step in improving your health and quality of life. We at Lucky Flow Acupuncture want to make sure that you are able to enjoy a life free from health issues far into the future. Want to make a commitment to your health?
